Three Full Rolls of 50 Wheat Cents
This listing is for three full rolls of 50 Lincoln Wheat Cents. Wheat pennies are one of the most recognizable and widely collected classic U.S. coins, with the series produced from 1909 through 1958.
The Lincoln Cent was introduced in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Designed by Victor David Brenner, it was historically significant because it became the first regular issue United States coin to feature a real historical person as its primary portrait.
The reverse originally featured two wheat stalks surrounding the words "ONE CENT" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." This design gave the coins their popular names "Wheat Pennies" and "Wheat Cents." The Wheat reverse remained in production for 50 years before being replaced by the Lincoln Memorial design in 1959.
These rolls can contain coins from across the Wheat Cent era, and dates, mint marks and conditions may vary. Collectors commonly search Wheat Cents for different Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco issues.
Some of the most famous dates and varieties from the Wheat Cent series include the 1909 S VDB, 1909 S, 1914 D, 1922 No D, 1931 S, 1943 bronze cent, 1944 steel cent and the 1955 Doubled Die. No specific rare date, mint mark, error or variety is guaranteed in this roll.
During World War II, the composition of the Lincoln Cent even became part of American history. In 1943, the U.S. Mint temporarily switched from the traditional bronze composition to zinc coated steel in order to conserve copper for the war effort.
