Full Roll of Wheat Pennies
This roll contains 50 Lincoln Wheat Cents, one of the most recognizable and widely collected series in American coinage. Wheat pennies were produced by the United States Mint from 1909 through 1958, giving collectors nearly 50 years of dates, mint marks and varieties to explore.
The Lincoln Cent debuted in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Designed by Victor David Brenner, it was historically significant because Lincoln became the first real person to appear on a regular issue circulating U.S. coin.
The obverse features Abraham Lincoln and remains the foundation of the cent design still used today. The original reverse features two wheat stalks surrounding the words ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, which gave these coins their popular nickname, Wheat Pennies or Wheat Cents.
Most Wheat Cents were struck from a bronze composition containing approximately 95% copper. One major exception occurred in 1943 during World War II, when copper was urgently needed for the war effort. The Mint temporarily produced cents from zinc coated steel before returning to a copper based composition in 1944.
With such a long production run, the Wheat Cent series contains numerous coins collectors search for, including early dates, lower mintage issues, mint marks and famous varieties such as the 1909 S VDB, 1914 D, 1922 No D, 1931 S and 1955 Doubled Die Obverse.
The visible end coin shows the classic Wheat Cent reverse, while the opposite end shows a Lincoln obverse. Dates, mint marks, varieties and individual conditions of the coins inside the roll are not guaranteed unless specifically visible.
Each roll contains 50 Wheat Pennies with a total face value of 50 cents.
