2000 P Sacagawea Dollar

This 2000 P Sacagawea Dollar represents the inaugural year of one of the most recognizable modern United States dollar coin series. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin is housed in a CoinHub holder and identified as Genuine.

Introduced in 2000, the Sacagawea Dollar was created as a new small sized dollar coin intended to improve upon the limited public acceptance of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar. The coin features a distinctive golden color produced by its manganese brass outer layers, although it contains no actual gold.

The obverse was designed by Glenna Goodacre and depicts Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste. Sacagawea played an important role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which explored vast portions of the American West in the early 1800s.

The original reverse, designed by Thomas D. Rogers Sr., features a soaring American bald eagle surrounded by 17 stars. The stars represent the number of states in the Union during the historic Lewis and Clark Expedition.

As a first year 2000 Philadelphia issue, this coin represents the beginning of the Sacagawea Dollar series and an important transition in modern United States dollar coinage. The original eagle reverse was used through 2008 before the series transitioned to annually changing Native American themed reverse designs beginning in 2009.
