1983 P Kennedy Half Dollar 

This 1983 P Kennedy Half Dollar is presented in a CoinHub holder and designated Gem Uncirculated. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin features the familiar portrait of President John F. Kennedy on the obverse and the Presidential Seal inspired design on the reverse.

The Kennedy Half Dollar was introduced in 1964, only months after the assassination of President Kennedy. The United States Mint moved quickly to honor the late president, replacing the Franklin Half Dollar with a new design created by Chief Engraver Gilroy Roberts and Assistant Engraver Frank Gasparro.

By 1983, the Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in a copper nickel clad composition rather than the silver compositions used during the series earlier years. Although half dollars were still produced for circulation, they were becoming increasingly uncommon in everyday commerce, helping turn the denomination into a popular collectible.

The 1983 P issue was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and carries the P mint mark. Its obverse features Kennedy facing left, while the reverse depicts a heraldic eagle based on the Presidential Seal, surrounded by a ring of stars.
