1973 S Lincoln Memorial Cent 

This 1973 S Lincoln Memorial Cent is presented in a CoinHub holder and designated Gem Uncirculated with a Red color designation. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this attractive Lincoln Cent represents the later years of regular circulation cent production at the historic California facility.

The Lincoln Cent was introduced in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Designed by Victor David Brenner, it became the first regular issue United States coin to feature a historical American president.

In 1959, the original Wheat reverse was replaced by Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial design to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The Memorial reverse remained a familiar sight in American commerce for half a century.

The 1973 S cent is especially interesting because San Francisco ceased producing Lincoln Cents for general circulation after 1974. This places the issue near the end of an important chapter in the history of San Francisco Mint circulating coinage.
