This 1 oz copper round features one of the most famous prehistoric predators ever discovered, the Tyrannosaurus rex. Tyrannosaurus rex lived approximately 68 to 66 million years ago during the final portion of the Cretaceous Period. Its name means “tyrant lizard king,” a fitting name for an animal that could grow around 40 feet long and rank among the largest meat eating dinosaurs known to science.

T. rex fossils were first discovered in the American West around the beginning of the twentieth century. The species was formally named Tyrannosaurus rex in 1905 by paleontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn. Since then, discoveries throughout western North America have helped make T. rex one of the most extensively studied and recognizable dinosaurs in history.
