This 2009 John Tyler Presidential Dollar is a genuine United States Mint error certified by PCGS as MS66. The coin is specifically attributed as a Missing Edge Lettering error, an important variety from the Presidential Dollar series.

The Presidential Dollar program began in 2007 and honored deceased United States presidents in the order they served. John Tyler, the tenth president, appeared on a 2009 issue. The obverse features his portrait, while the reverse uses the Statue of Liberty design shared throughout the series.

One of the most distinctive features of Presidential Dollars from this period was that several inscriptions were applied to the edge of the coin in a separate production step. This process created the opportunity for coins to bypass the edge lettering equipment entirely. When that occurred, a coin could leave the Mint with a plain edge instead of the intended inscriptions.
