Series 1953 $2 Red Seal United States Note

This Series 1953 $2 United States Note is a classic piece of American paper money featuring Thomas Jefferson and the distinctive red Treasury seal and red serial numbers that give these notes their popular nickname, Red Seal $2 Bills.

The Series 1953 $2 notes belong to the final generations of red seal United States Notes. The denomination continued with Series 1963 before production of $2 United States Notes ended. When the $2 denomination returned to regular production in 1976, it was issued as a Federal Reserve Note with a green seal and a completely redesigned reverse featuring the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

This note provides an interesting link between America's Civil War era United States Note system and the modern $2 bill collectors recognize today.
