1999-S Connecticut State Quarter NGC Gem Proof

This 1999-S Connecticut Quarter was struck at the San Francisco Mint and has been certified by NGC as a Gem Proof. Proof coins are specially produced for collectors using polished dies and specially prepared planchets, creating sharper details and reflective surfaces compared with regular circulation strikes.

The coin was part of the first year of the historic 50 State Quarters Program, which began in 1999. Connecticut was the fifth and final state honored that year.

The reverse features the Charter Oak, one of the most famous symbols in Connecticut history. According to tradition, Connecticut's Royal Charter of 1662 was hidden inside a large oak tree in 1687 to prevent it from being seized by representatives of King James II. The original Charter Oak eventually fell during a storm in 1856, but it remains an important symbol of independence and self government.

The reverse includes the date 1788, representing the year Connecticut ratified the U.S. Constitution and became the fifth state to join the Union.
