In 1960 the Pittsburgh Pirates faced off against Micky Mantle, Roger Maris, Whitey Ford, and the rest of the mighty Yankees in the World series. This was going to be an uphill battle for the Pirates. "Moose" Skowron, "Yogi" Berra, Bobby Richardson, and an all-star Yankee team were ready to continue their dominance of baseball, and the only thing that stood in their way was a team from a "small" Pennsylvania blue-collar city.
The Pirates were fighting, though, and going into game seven the series was tied. This was it. Everything on the line...
Bottom of the 9th inning:
Pittsburgh - New York tied at 9 runs each
No one on base.
No out.
Bill Mazeroski steps to the plate, facing Ralph Terry.
And then it happens..."The Hit Heard Around the World"
Mazeroski crushes a pitch deep over the left field fence to win the World Series.
