• This Thesaurus was written 67 years after Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic
• Description:
• Nizzoli, Marius (1498-1556) NIZOLIVS, SIVE, THESAURUS CICERONIANUS, Basileae: Apud Ioannem Hervagium, 1559. Folio. Original wooden boards. Very good Folio in 6's (31.5 cm x 21 cm), 13-1/2 x 9 inches & 3 inches thick. Text in columns, columns numbered 3,096 (misnumbered) + 12 pages. Original intricate blind-stamped leather over beveled wooden boards, 4 raised bands, remnants of gilt-stamped black leather spine label, two metal clasp closures, one clasp missing. Lots of interesting contemporary ink margin notes in Latin throughout, with a handwritten in ink in fore-edge. Covers browned and age toned, slight tanning to pages primarily around edges, occasional thumbing, faint imprint between two pages where a plant had once been enclosed, otherwise interior quite clean, a very good scarce copy.
