Description: Acer truncatum is a medium-small maple tree, reaching 20 to 25 feet in height and spread. Growth habit is round-headed, quite dense and uniform. Young bark can have a purplish tone, eventually turns gray-brown. New spring foliage is a beautiful reddish purple, turns to dark green for the summer and then presents bright yellow in fall. Small greenish-yellow flowers appear in late spring on 3-inch corymbs. The winged purplish samara fruit forms a 90 degree angle. It is a hardy, adaptable species, tolerant of heat and drought, with no serious pests. Could be used as a street and residential tree, very lovely maple. Native to China, some cultivars available.
